Three years ago, I made a deliberate, thinking decision to never race again. Less than a year ago, I made a deliberate, thinking decision to never blog again. As life took its course, and stuff percolated much more randomly and slowly up through the substrata, I recently realized I did want to race again (trail half marathons) and blog again. The difference was in thinking versus feeling. Realizing a decision with our whole selves, instead of just making it with the top half of our skulls, often takes time, space, and a deepening sense of awareness – conditions, it seems, we rarely have time these days to nurture. But if we do cultivate patience and allow for the time and space to let our innate awareness grow – and if the decision involves something fundamental to our nature, something we cannot deny – then we don’t have to make the decision at all. It makes us. So it seems for me at the moment with running, and writing. What is it for you? Whatever decision is waiting to make you, here’s to more realizing – and less making – for the rest of 2015 and beyond.
